energySMART Commercial Programs

The energySMART program has several incentives for commercial and industrial customers that are designed to reduce energy consumption.

How to ParticipateTo qualify for the NJ SmartStart incentive program you must register the project with the Commercial & Industrial Market Manager (currently TRC Energy Services) before the work is performed.

If eligible, you will receive an approval letter with the estimated authorized incentive amount and the date by which the equipment must be installed in order for the approval to remain in effect. Upon receipt of an approval letter, you may then proceed to install the equipment listed on the approved application. NOTE: Equipment installed prior to the date of the Market Manager's approval letter is not eligible for an incentive.

For the convenience of our commercial customers, we do not require an additional rebate application for our energySMART programs. Instead, apply to TRC Energy Services by filling out the appropriate program application form found on the New Jersey SmartStart Building webpage. Once TRC has approved the rebate for payment, Elizabethtown Gas will be notified and will fulfill the appropriate energySMART rebate.

Gas Cooling Incentives are avaliable on Gas Absorption Chillers and Regenerative Desiccant Units based on the size of the unit and the unit's efficiency rating.

Gas Water Heating

High efficiency water heaters and gas-fired water booster heaters qualify for incentives based on capacity and energy factor.

Small commercial up to $100 with peak demand of 200KW or less.  Large commercial up to $100 with peak demand greater than 200kW.
Gas Heating

Natural gas fired boilers and furnaces offer incentives for upgrading to high efficiency equipment.  Gas fired boiler incentives are based on unit capacity and efficiency.  Furnace incentives are based on AFUE or ENERGY STAR® rating.

Small commercial up to $15,000 with peak demand of 200KW or less.  Large commercial up to $25,000 with peak demand greater than 200KW.

Combined Heat & Power

New Jersey's Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) offers several incentives to customers that invest in a combined heat and power system.  The energySMART program offers incentives to large commercial and industrial customers equal to 50% of the NJCEP rebate up to $500,000.  New Jersey's Clean Energy Program Incentives are:

• 10¢ per square foot of the project with a maximum amount of $50,000 not to exceed 50% of the project's annual energy cost and contingent on installation of measures in the Energy Reduction Plan.
• 50% of the total performance-based incentive calculated per Program's incentive structure.
• Remaining amount based on the realized energy savings of the project.

The Market Manager reserves the right to conduct a pre-inspection of the facility prior to the installation of equipment. This will be done prior to the issuance of the approval letter. All equipment must be purchased within 12 months of date of application. Any Customer and/or Agent who purchases equipment prior to the receipt of an incentive approval letter does so at his/her own risk.
