Home Assessment

Get Started with a Home Assessment
The home assessment is the first step to unlocking all of the savings and incentives through energySMART and New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program.  Completing your home assessment will qualify you for all the energySMART program offerings.

What’s a Home Assessment?
A home assessment involves a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified technician performing tests that will help assess the conditions of your home, providing you with a thorough look at your home's safety and how efficiently your home uses energy and what, if any, is wasted. You can expect the assessment to take between two and three hours.

This includes:

  • Health and safety check (carbon monoxide levels, moisture, and indoor air quality problems)
  • Overall comfort level (cold/hot spots, indoor air quality stuffiness/stale odors)
  • Air sealing opportunities
  • Insulation levels
  • Heating system efficiency
  • Cooling system/central air conditioning efficiency, if applicable
  • Domestic hot water system efficiency
  • Major appliances
  • Lighting

Upon completing the assessment, the certified technician will provide you with a detailed report listing home efficiency improvements that can be made at various investment levels.  Using your home assessment report, you can decide what energySMART and New Jersey's Clean Energy Program components in which you want to take part.
