Elizabethtown Gas reads residential, commercial and some industrial meters monthly. A monthly meter reading provides accurate data, ensuring that customers are paying for the exact amount of natural gas they use, not an estimated amount. In the event that the meter is not read, the customer will receive a system-generated bill, which is calculated by considering past usage and adjusting it for exact weather conditions. If a system-generated bill is incorrect, any over or under charge will be corrected the following month. That way, you will still be billed only for the gas you actually use.

You'll know when we're scheduled to visit because our next reading date is found in the upper right corner of your bill. If you'd like to give us a reading, call our Customer Care Center at 1-800-242-5830 and follow the prompts. Or, call and request to have an automated meter reading device installed on your meter.
Remote Meter Reading: Consider an AMR Device Consider having an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) device installed on your natural gas meter. An AMR device allows your natural gas usage to be read remotely by an Elizabethtown Gas employee driving by in a specially equipped van. Installation is quick, convenient and readings are accurate. Read only those dials with numbers, starting from the left. If the arrow is between numbers, read the lesser number (the number 9 is less than 0).

Don’t Hesitate: Ask to see a Company Photo ID
If a meter reader approaches your property, don't hesitate to ask to see their company photo ID. If you're in doubt about the identity of someone coming to your home, call us at 1-800-242-5830. If you feel threatened, call 911.
