In Our CommunityCommunity Relations
We Put Our Energy Here
Through its many subsidiaries, including Elizabethtown Gas, AGL Resources touches nearly 2.2 million residents in nine states. We are proud to have been part of the fabric of our communities for more than 150 years. We believe that part of our corporate responsibility is to give back to our communities, and our philanthropic focus is designed to make a meaningful impact in the community we serve.
Areas of Focus
To make the most meaningful impact in our communities, Elizabethtown Gas focuses on three distinct areas of giving:
- Energy Assistance: We support programs which primarily help low-income households and low-income senior citizens afford their natural gas energy consumption. These programs include weatherization projects and emergency energy assistance.
- Education: With an emphasis in literacy, math and science, this support includes public secondary schools (K-12); public and private colleges and universities.
- Environmental Stewardship: Clean air, transportation, greenspace and tree protection
AGL Resources Private Foundation
We are proud to be a partner in the communities we serve. We strive to maintain a keen sensitivity to issues affecting our communities and our business. We show our dedication and corporate citizenship through our various foundation grants, community outreach programs, and other corporate charitable giving programs. We realize that we cannot support every worthy cause in all our communities and make a meaningful impact. Therefore, most grants approved by the foundation are for organizations that already have historical partnerships with the foundation and are within our service territories - Georgia, Florida, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, Tennessee, and Texas. Unsolicited grant requests are welcomed, but most are rarely approved by the foundation.

V-Force: Employee Volunteers in Action
We're Active in the Community!
The Boys and Girls Club of Union County have named Elizabethtown Gas “Company of the Year” for ETG’s dedication to the community. This award goes to a local company that has made significant contributions through volunteerism and community involvement. Hats off to ETG’s Tim Williams, manager of community outreach, and the employees of ETG.
Hooray for Habitat!
Elizabethtown Gas helped speed the move-in dates for three Habitat for Humanity families. Gary Marmo, director of marketing & sales, had natural gas service run to the homes at no charge -- and the families were able to move in ahead of schedule.

Elizabethtown Gas joined the county Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs to host the Union County Senior Art Show. Pictured with one of the guests is county freeholder Bette Jane Kowalsk (right), a supporter of the exhibit.

Elizabethtown Gas hosted the Greater Elizabeth and Union Township chambers for a joint Legislative Breakfast. Community, legislative and local business leaders exchanged views on what’s happening at the state, county and local levels. Officials included (l-r) Union Township Chamber President Jim Brody, Elizabeth Chamber President Gordon Haas and Elizabethtown Gas’s Don Carter and Eddie Wood.
Thirty-four blood Elizabethtown Gas employees turned out for the NJ Blood Services blood drive in June. Thanks to all who volunteered!
Introducing our Community Ambassadors!
They’re in action…the Elizabethtown Gas community ambassadors. These employee volunteers represent the company in various ways…meeting with local citizens, pitching in or projects, donating time and resources. On a recent visit to Hillside High School, our ambassadors joined school district substance awareness coordinator Melba Mullins. School officials asked us back to speak to students about careers, college and what we do at the gas company. Watch for more on us soon.
