AGL Resources Names Vice President of Governmental Relations for Mid-Atlantic Region, Including New Jersey

January 10, 2005

ATLANTA, Ga. – Jan. 10, 2005 – Atlanta-based AGL Resources (NYSE:ATG), parent company of Elizabethtown Gas, has named James R. “Jim” Kibler Jr., a former partner at the prominent Virginia law firm of LeClair Ryan, as vice president of governmental relations for the natural gas distributor’s Mid-Atlantic Region, which includes operations in New Jersey.

AGL Resources, an energy services holding company, acquired Elizabethtown Gas when it bought NUI Corp. in November 2004. AGL Resources and NUI requested and were granted expedited approval by regulators in three states and the federal government to close the transaction prior to year-end — importantly before the peak of the winter heating season so that Elizabethtown Gas customers would continue to receive natural gas service without interruption.

“We’re keeping the name Elizabethtown Gas and are working to quickly bring the utility up to our operating and community involvement standards,” said Hank Linginfelter, president of Elizabethtown Gas and senior vice president of AGL Resources Mid-Atlantic Operations.

“We’re thrilled to have Jim Kibler onboard,” Linginfelter added. “Jim’s strong energy expertise and his governmental and regulatory background, make him a natural to head our governmental affairs activities in New Jersey and throughout our Mid-Atlantic Region, which also includes Maryland and Virginia.”

Before joining AGL Resources, Kibler focused on regulatory law and governmental relations at LeClair Ryan, where his emphasis was on energy, telecommunications and other regulated industries. He also served as counsel to the Virginia Oil and Gas Association.

During nearly two decades of practice before the Virginia General Assembly, Kibler was involved in several major legislative initiatives, including the reformation of statutes on land use, eminent domain, utility regulation, electric restructuring, taxation and natural gas production. In addition, Kibler served Virginia Governor Baliles’ administration by helping to develop land use regulations to address the effects of development along the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

Virginia Business magazine ranked Kibler as among Virginia’s “Legal Elite” for the last four years.

In addition to Elizabethtown Gas, AGL Resources acquired Virginia Gas in Abington, Virginia, and Elkton Gas in Elkton, Maryland, from NUI Corp. Virginia Gas also operates a natural gas salt dome storage facility in Saltville, Virginia.
