Elizabethtown Gas Closer to Serving Bloomsbury Residents and BusinessesJune 14, 2005
UNION, N.J., June 14, 2005 – Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of AGL Resources Inc. (NYSE: ATG), today filed an application for a franchise with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to provide natural gas service to the community of Bloomsbury, New Jersey for the first time in its history.
"I am pleased that Bloomsbury residents may soon have the option of natural gas,” said Mayor Mark Peck. “It can only serve our best interests to have energy choices so every household can make a decision as to what is most suitable for their family.
"Elizabethtown Gas has already laid a pipe to service the school, which is ready to be extended to serve homes and businesses throughout the Borough,” added Peck. “I am confident that the BPU will confirm the Council’s desire and grant a franchise to allow Elizabethtown Gas to serve our community."
The Bloomsbury Borough Council on Tuesday, May 24, approved an ordinance granting Elizabethtown Gas a franchise to provide the community at large with natural gas service. Once the BPU approves the franchise, Elizabethtown Gas can begin serving the entire community.
On February 23, 2005, the Bloomsbury Elementary School became the first building in the borough to receive reliable natural gas heat thanks to the work of local officials and Elizabethtown Gas. At the request of the school and working with the community and state regulators, Elizabethtown Gas this winter installed an 8-inch distribution main to deliver natural gas to the school.
“We’re excited about the possibility of bringing natural gas to everyone who wants it in Bloomsbury,” said Eric Martinez, vice president and general manager of Elizabethtown Gas. “We were pleased to be able to run a pipe to heat the Bloomsbury Elementary School this past winter and look forward to providing service to Bloomsbury residents and businesses as soon as this summer.”
Elizabethtown Gas will host a town hall style meeting from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 22 to inform residents about the advantages of natural gas service, including available rebates for new furnaces and other appliances. Refreshments will be served at the meeting, which will be held at the borough hall, 91 Brunswick Avenue.
