Elizabethtown Gas to Serve Bloomsbury Residents and BusinessesBPU Approves Franchise Application

September 14, 2005

UNION, NJ – September 14, 2005 – Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of AGL Resources Inc. (NYSE: ATG), today received approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) for a franchise to provide natural gas service to the community of Bloomsbury, New Jersey for the first time in its history.

"Going into the winter heating season, where prices for energy are anticipated to be at all time highs, I am pleased that Bloomsbury residents will have the option to use natural gas,” said Mayor Mark Peck. “It can only serve our best interests to have energy choices so every household and business can make a decision as to what is most suitable for them.”

Don Carter, vice president of Elizabethtown Gas said, “We’re pleased that the BPU has approved the franchise so that Elizabethtown Gas can provide natural gas service to the entire community. We’ve done the groundwork and are ready to move quickly, starting in the Fawn Run area, so that those who live and work in Bloomsbury can rely on natural gas to heat their homes and businesses this winter and beyond.”

On February 23, 2005, the Bloomsbury Elementary School became the first building in the borough to receive reliable natural gas heat. At the request of the school and working with the community and state regulators, Elizabethtown Gas last winter installed an 8-inch distribution main to deliver natural gas to the school. Because Fawn Run is closest to the school and the Elizabethtown Gas distribution pipe installed last year, the area will be the first to receive service.

On May 24, the Bloomsbury Borough Council approved an ordinance granting Elizabethtown Gas a franchise to provide the community at large with natural gas service. On June 14, Elizabethtown gas filed the application with BPU, which today granted the franchise.

On June 22, Elizabethtown Gas hosted a town hall style meeting at the Bloomsbury borough hall to inform residents and business owners about the advantages of natural gas service, including available rebates for new furnaces and other appliances. The company has had follow-up meetings with individuals and staged construction areas with pipe.
