United Way African-American Leadership Initiative partners with Elizabethtown Gas to support the YMCA Black Achievers program

UNION, N.J. - Feb. 27, 2007 - In an effort to help address the educational challenges facing the African-American community, the United Way of Greater Union County has partnered with Elizabethtown Gas Company to support the African-American American Leadership Initiative’s (AALI) Black Achievers program. Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of AGL Resources, hosted the leadership initiative’s first annual wine tasting fundraiser on Thursday, February 22. The fundraiser raised $1,000 which will be used to education scholarships benefit the Westfield Area YMCA Black Achievers mentorship program.

The AALI’s mission is to mobilize the caring power of the African-American community to improve African-American lives in Union County by encouraging greater African-American participation in community and civic affairs, increasing awareness of local African-American leaders and opportunities to better serve the community. While addressing the educational challenges facing African Americans, the AALI seeks to provide new parent training opportunities focused on young parents and promote the availability and access of geriatric services to the African American community.
