Elizabethtown Gas employees support Earth Day

April 24, 2008

Elizabeth, N.J. – April 23, 2008 – Elizabethtown Gas has joined with the City of Elizabeth to provide water and volunteers for the cities annual Earth Day event, Thursday, April 24. Employees of Elizabethtown Gas will donate their time and cases of water for all of the volunteers preparing for a morning of picking up trash with the Mayor and city officials. The Earth Day event will conclude with an awards luncheon, and an awards ceremony for the most successful clean-up teams.

This year’s Earth Day event is hosted by the City of Elizabeth and New Jersey Clean Communities, a community driven, statewide litter abatement program funded by the Clean Communities Act. The program is managed by the New Jersey Clean Communities Council and the state departments of Environmental Protection and Treasury, which work with municipalities and counties to keep New Jersey clean.

A grassroots effort to save the environment almost 40 years ago, Earth Day has blossomed into a world-wide endeavor. Earth Day activities in Elizabethtown range from recycling and unplugging appliances to car-pooling and educational exhibits. All are ways to reduce our effect on the environment, a top priority for Elizabethtown Gas.

“As a natural gas company, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and those of our customers,” said Don Carter, vice president, Elizabethtown Gas. “Our employees who participate in Earth Day initiatives reinforce that goal.”

The efficiency and environmental friendliness of natural gas means that homes using it for heating, hot water and other appliances produce about 40 percent less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions than homes using electric appliances for these services.
Natural gas is the cleanest burning and most efficient fossil fuel, to help us bridge to America’s energy future.
