Elizabethtown Gas employees celebrate Earth Day

April 22, 2009

UNION, N.J. – April 22, 2009 – Elizabethtown Gas employees celebrated Earth Day with a day-long trash clean-up. Volunteers worked with several ‘clean’ teams picking up trash with the Mayor and city officials. Elizabethtown Gas also provided water for all of the teams.

“As a natural gas company, we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment.” said Don Carter, vice president, Elizabethtown Gas. “Our employees who participate in Earth Day initiatives reflect that commitment to our community.”

This year’s Earth Day event was hosted by Groundwork Elizabeth and New Jersey Clean Communities, a community driven, statewide litter abatement program funded by the Clean Communities Act. The program is managed by the New Jersey Clean Communities Council and the state departments of Environmental Protection and Treasury, which work with municipalities and counties to keep New Jersey clean

Earth Day is also a good reminder to Elizabethtown Gas customers to implement a home energy audit. The New Jersey Clean Energy Program offers whole house energy audits that can correct energy efficiency problems, saving homeowners money over time while reducing their carbon footprint.

“By using high efficiency natural gas appliances, Elizabethtown Gas customers are already reducing their impact on the environment,” said Carter.

According to the Department of Energy, homes using natural gas appliances produce about 40 percent less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions than homes using electric appliances for these services.
In addition to participating in today’s clean-up, Elizabethtown Gas also donated $2500 to Groundwork Elizabeth for Earth day projects.
