Natural gas prices drop for Elizabethtown Gas customers September 16, 2009
Union, N.J. – September 16, 2009 – Elizabethtown Gas today announces approval of a decrease in the gas commodity cost charges for its customers. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities approved the new rate effective today. The revised rate reflects a drop in the wholesale price of natural gas. Elizabethtown Gas customers will see the price of gas drop from $1.2801 per therm to $0.8031 per therm. This will decrease the typical monthly bill (including the base charge) about 28 percent or about 48 dollars per month for a customer using 100 therms.
“We purchase natural gas from economic and reliable sources for our customers. High storage levels and lower demand have pushed natural gas prices to the lowest we have seen in years,” said Don Carter, vice president, Elizabethtown Gas. “We are pleased to pass that savings onto our customers.”
The gas commodity portion of the customer’s bill – about 65 percent of the total bill – is a direct pass-through charge without any mark-up from Elizabethtown Gas.
“We want to remind our customers to take advantage of additional savings by participating in our new energySMART programs,” said Carter. “Our energySMART programs enhance the incentives offered by New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program and allow customers to enjoy significant cost savings on their energy efficiency measures while potentially increasing the value of their homes.”
