Elizabethtown Gas customers receive refund on December bills

December 2, 2009

Union, N.J. – December 2, 2009 Elizabethtown Gas customers will see a refund related to lower natural gas costs on their December bills.

“The recent decline in the wholesale natural gas market allows us the opportunity to pass $4 million in gas savings on to our customers,” said Jodi Gidley, president, Elizabethtown Gas. “This refund will be reflected as a one-time credit on December bills of qualifying customers who receive service under residential delivery service, small general service and multifamily service classifications.”

A typical residential customer using 1,000 therms of natural gas annually will receive a one-time credit of approximately $17.50.  A non-heating customer using 200 therms of natural gas annually will receive a credit of approximately $3.50.

“Elizabethtown Gas is always seeking ways to lower the cost of its customers’ bills,” said Gidley.

Elizabethtown Gas customers can also participate in a new energy conservation program called energySMART.  The program offers several initiatives designed to provide customers with the tools they need to become more energy efficient and save money.

Elizabethtown Gas energySMART programs enhance the incentives offered by New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program and allow customers to enjoy significant cost savings on their energy-efficiency measures while potentially increasing the value of their homes.

New Jersey's Clean Energy Program is a statewide program promoting increased energy efficiency. The program provides information to help reduce energy use and offers financial incentives, programs and services for residential, commercial and municipal customers to save energy, money and the environment.

The energySMART program includes:

  • Residential appliance rebates for customers who choose a high-efficiency natural gas furnace, boiler and/or water heater.
  • A ‘whole house’ energy efficiency program promoting an energy conservation approach of the entire house. This program encourages residential customers to implement a combination of energy-efficiency improvements (i.e., air sealing, eliminating duct leaks, adding insulation and high-efficiency equipment) rather than just a single improvement.
