Elizabethtown Gas encourages customers to prepare for winter heating season

UNION, NJ – Oct. 8, 2013 – The fall season has begun and the cooler temperatures also will arrive soon.  Elizabethtown Gas wants to help customers better prepare for the winter season by encouraging them to take advantage of available programs that can provide assistance with managing heating bills and natural gas use:

  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps eligible customers pay for their winter heating service and also may cover the cost of may cover certain medically necessary cooling expenses. Eligibility is based on household size and income. 
    • The application period opened on Oct. 1, 2013 and continues April 30, 2014.
    • LIHEAP application is also an application for the Universal Service Fund Program (USF), a program created by the state to help make natural gas and electric bills more affordable for low-income households.
    • For more information about LIHEAP and USF or to locate an authorized local community action agency or community based organization in your area, call 2-1-1 or the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Hotline (toll-free) at 1-800-510-3102. 
  • NJ SHARES is a program made up of the voluntary contributions from Elizabethtown Gas customers. The program provides a one-time annual grant benefit to eligible applicants in a temporary crisis who exceeds the income guidelines for other energy assistance programs.   • The Elizabethtown Gas Budget Plan is a bill management program that provides a convenient way for customers to pay their natural gas bills, making household budgeting much easier. The plan minimizes the "peaks and valleys" in natural gas bills by allowing customers to pay a consistent amount every month for a 12-month period. Customers interested in enrolling in the budget plan should visit virginianaturalgas.com or call the Customer Care Center at 1-800-242-5830.
  • The energySMART program offers ideas and tools to help customers save energy and money. Combined with other programs and incentives, energySMART provides the resources and financial rebates to reduce energy use and make homes and businesses more energy efficient.
