Elizabethtown Gas Launches New Warm Neighbors Energy Assistance Program

UNION, NJApril 13, 2015 – Elizabethtown Gas today announced the company’s newest effort to expand access to financial assistance for its customers. The company launched Warm Neighbors, an energy assistance program designed to provide customers with more help in managing their natural gas bills.

The program, which supplements other forms of financial assistance, is funded by the voluntary donations of Elizabethtown Gas employees and customers who, at any time during the year, can add $1, $2, $5, $10, $15 or $20 to their monthly natural gas bill payment. The AGL Resources Private Foundation, the charitable arm of Elizabethtown Gas’ parent company, AGL Resources, also matches contributions up to $25,000.

Last year, Elizabethtown Gas customers donated more than $76,000 to a similar program.

“Every year our employees and customers have been more and more generous in lending a hand to other customers who are having trouble paying their natural gas bills,” said Brian MacLean, president of Elizabethtown Gas. “The goal of Warm Neighbors is to help ensure that as many people as possible get help they might need to stay warm and comfortable.”

Warm Neighbors is administered by three participating intake agencies: Puerto Rican Action Board (PRAB), Puerto Rican Organization for Community Education and Economic Development (PROCEED) and Northwest New Jersey Community Action Partnership (NORWESCAP).

Under the program, one-time annual grants of up to $450 will be distributed to qualified residential customers year-round based on availability of funding.

To qualify, a household monthly income may not exceed 200 percent of the federally established poverty level and a customer must have made a payment of $100 within 60 days of their application. Customers who are facing a crisis situation also can apply for the benefit.
