UNION, NJ – Feb. 25, 2016 – Elizabethtown Gas, through the philanthropic arm of its parent company, AGL Resources, has established a STEM education scholarship fund for qualified Union County College students enrolled in a science, technology, engineering and math career field.

The “Fueling the Future” scholarship was created to nurture the skills students will need to thrive in the workforce of the future. Training and developing highly skilled workers ready to assume roles in engineering and other areas are critical to Elizabethtown Gas. “With STEM skills being a requirement for nearly every position, Elizabethtown Gas has a responsibility to invest in future leaders who will contribute to the natural gas industry,” said company President Brian MacLean.

Four $2,500 scholarships will be awarded annually. Applicants must meet several qualifications, including the following:

  • must be a Union County resident
  • must be enrolled at the university full time in one of the STEM disciplines
  • must  earn a minimum 2.5 grade-point average

“Whether this scholarship offsets the cost of tuition and books or simply is the fuel that makes a STEM career possible, we’re very excited about this opportunity,” said MacLean, who serves on the board of the Union County College Board of Governors. “We’re proud of our strong relationship with Union County College whose goal of developing future leaders aligns with our goal of preparing those leaders for careers in the natural gas industry.”
