Elizabethtown Gas empowers local nonprofits to help struggling households meet energy needs

UNION, NJ – Nov. 3, 2016 – Elizabethtown Gas is dedicated to helping customers stay warm this winter. Today, during its annual Energy Assistance Empowerment Breakfast, the company awarded $77,500 in grants to five local organizations that work year-round to provide assistance to households struggling with their energy costs.

“Energy is a basic human need,” said Brian MacLean, president of Elizabethtown Gas. “Continuing to support our community partners will ensure that hundreds of residents facing financial hardship can keep their homes warm, cook their meals and access hot water.”

The following organizations – all located within the Elizabethtown Gas service area – received funding for programs that supplement a portion of customers’ home heating costs, and to support projects that promote energy conservation and efficiency.

Northwest NJ Community Action Program (NORWESCAP), Phillipsburg: Provides crisis intervention and emergency needs assistance to meet the heating needs of customers in Hunterdon, Sussex and Warren counties.

Puerto Rican Action Board (PRAB), New Brunswick: Supports Mobile Outreach Initiative to increase enrollment of low-income Middlesex County residents in home energy assistance programs.

Puerto Rican Association for Human Development (PRAHD), Perth Amboy: Supports the long-term viability and sustainability of the Senior Services Center’s Access to Energy program.

Puerto Rican Occupational Center for Education Economic Development (PROCEED), Elizabeth: Provides crisis intervention and energy assistance to individuals and families who have been unable to obtain assistance from other sources.

United Way of Greater Union County, Elizabeth: Supports the emergency energy and utilities program, known as the Flex Funds Initiative that aids economically challenged households in time of need.
