Girl Scouts Get a Lesson on Natural Gas Safety from Elizabethtown Gas

Union, NJ, April 26, 2019 – Members of the Clark, Garwood, Winfield Park Girl Scouts, Troop 40226, received valuable information on natural gas safety from System Integrity manager, Marc Stubel, of Elizabethtown Gas. The troop learned about the importance of gas safety, specifically how to identify gas leaks, what natural gas smells like, what a healthy natural gas flame on their stove top looks like, how to identify the presence of carbon monoxide and the importance of calling 811 before starting any digging project.

“As our children get older, with the help of their parents, our troop members start experimenting with meal prep over the stove-top,” said Cristina Mendez, Girl Scout Service Unit 53 Manager. “We also participate in regular beautification projects that require digging, so it’s important they have the information needed to navigate their world safely and with respect to what’s in their environment.”
