Water Savings That Make a Splash!

Water Savings That Make a Splash!

Water Savings That Make a Splash
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, each American uses an average of 82 gallons of water a day at home, and the average family spends more than $1,000 per year in water costs. That can add up, depending on your household size and needs.

However, you can lower your water usage and utility costs by making a few simple changes around the house. Start with these energy-saving tips below:

  • Rinse off fresh produce in a bowl or basin, rather than under running water.
  • Chill your drinking water in the refrigerator to avoid running the faucet for cold water.
  • Defrost frozen foods in the refrigerator instead of under running water.
  • Scrape dishes instead of rinsing them before loading in the dishwasher.
  • Run the dishwasher only when it’s full.
  • Install low-flow, aerating faucets and showerheads.
  • Leave the faucet off while brushing your teeth.
  • Take a shower instead of a bath, which uses more water.
  • When doing laundry, run the washing machine only when full.
  • Upgrade to a high-efficiency appliances, which are designed to save resources.
  • Repair leaky faucets promptly; a leaky faucet quickly wastes gallons of water.
