We care about the health and safety of our employees, customers and communities

A Note from Elizabethtown Gas President, Christie McMullen

As we navigate these uncertain times, I am in awe of the strength and resilience of our community. Especially inspiring is the response of our medical community and first responders who continue to selflessly hold the line against this pandemic to protect each and every one of us. I’m also incredibly grateful for the unsung heroes ensuring our basic needs can be met, including those supporting our supply chain, grocery and food service providers, and pharmacies, among others.

Elizabethtown Gas too has many dedicated employees on the front lines – working to maintain safe, reliable, affordable - and uninterrupted - natural gas service for our customers. As a company and a community, we appreciate their efforts as they provide essential infrastructure maintenance and emergency response both in homes, when necessary, and in the field. Rest assured, our commitment to safety – yours, our employees, and that of the communities we serve – remains our highest priority. That’s why our employees are working in strict accordance with guidelines set by federal, state, and local health agencies, that are shared by so many of our utility peers across the nation – whether in the field or at home wherever possible.

You May See Us in Your Neighborhood

As an essential service, you may see us reading your meter or performing a required service. For everyone’s safety during in-home visits, our employees are working in strict accordance with guidelines set by federal, state, and local health agencies. These include washing hands before and after any visit, wearing personal protective equipment while performing work, maintaining a distance of six feet while in a home or business and asking that customers keep the same distance.

We have also postponed participation in Customer Outreach events and closed all in-person Customer Service Centers.

Beware of Scammers

Unfortunately, scammers are using this time of health and financial uncertainty to attempt to deceive us. Therefore, it’s important that we avoid becoming victims by taking a few precautions:

  • Never provide your social security number or personal information to anyone initiating contact with you claiming to be a utility representative or requesting you to send money.
  • Always ask to see a company photo ID before allowing any utility worker into your home or business.
  • Do not give payment in any form- cash, check, or credit- to anyone coming to your door.
  • If you’re unsure, call ETG at 1.800.242.5830.

Elizabethtown Gas is continuing all functions necessary to provide safe, reliable, affordable natural gas service, including having our crews out in your community responding to customer issues or emergencies, and performing maintenance on our system. We have also taken the following precautions:

  • For employees whose role requires them to work from an Elizabethtown Gas center or in the field, we are following Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and taking every action possible to ensure social distancing and sanitizing protocols.
  • The rest of our employees are required to work from home when possible.
  • All business travel outside our service territory is banned.
  • Our staffing and operational plans for all functions across the company are under constant evaluation.
  • We are in close contact with public health authorities, the public utility commission, and our emergency management partners.

As a member of our community for over 165 years, Elizabethtown Gas’ core value of caring has never been more important. We are honored to support organizations that are helping our community affected by the spread of the coronavirus including:

  • $25,000 to the Trinitas Regional Medical Center
  • $50,000 to the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund

These funds will directly go towards fighting the medical, social and economic impacts of COVID-19 on New Jersey’s most vulnerable, supporting organizations that provide essential services and aiding those on the front line of the pandemic.
