Through the Infrastructure Investment Program, we are:
Upgrading associated infrastructure across North Jersey
Installing excess flow valves (EFVs) on new service lines to automatically shut off gas if a line is damaged
These upgrades dramatically reduce risk and improve system reliability for customers today — and decades into the future.
Modern infrastructure upgrades don’t have to mean torn-up roads or interrupted service. That’s why Elizabethtown Gas is using CISBOT, an advanced robotic technology that repairs aging cast iron pipes from the inside.
CISBOT enters the gas main through one small opening in the street and travels hundreds of feet underground, sealing pipe joints internally while gas service remains on.

Nicholas Libretti
As a Construction Inspector at Elizabethtown Gas (ETG), Nicholas Libretti is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of capital construction work, which includes planning, assigning, monitoring, and reporting on projects completed by SJI team members and contractors. He has deeply valued the welcoming atmosphere at ETG, noting that the strong relationships built with colleagues from day one have been instrumental in guiding him toward success in his role.
Nicholas finds great satisfaction in knowing his work is vital to the community, often feeling rewarded when residents express appreciation for his efforts with a resounding “thank you”. By ensuring projects are completed correctly, safely, and in a timely manner while respecting the surrounding area, he contributes to the strength of the local community. Furthermore, his role has provided a new perspective on infrastructure, fostering a deep appreciation for the hard work involved in utility installation and strengthening his commitment to public safety during challenging conditions.

Juan Solano
Juan Solano has been with Elizabethtown Gas (ETG) since 2010 and is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our customers and the community he serves. After advancing from Customer Service and Meter Reading, he became a Responder in 2015, where his primary responsibility is to quickly assess and secure both indoor and outdoor gas leaks. What he loves most about working at ETG is being part of a strong, supportive union and having the ability to step in and solve problems for people when they need it most.
Throughout his time here, he has worked through challenging conditions—including heavy rain, dense fog, and blizzards—to respond to critical calls and keep the community safe. Relying on extensive training, experience, and the support of his team allows him to take pride in showing up no matter the weather, knowing this work is truly vital. He believes a strong community is built on people looking out for one another and having reliable services, which is what he provides every day. For any young person considering a career in utilities, he would tell them it is a fantastic, stable path where you can make a real difference.

Michael Gelsleichter
As a Crew Leader in the Street Department for Underground Gas Operations at Elizabethtown Gas since 2018, Michael Gelsleichter leads teams in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground natural gas mains and services. He is responsible for coordinating crew members, ensuring job site safety, performing emergency repairs, and managing infrastructure upgrades to provide safe, efficient energy to the community. Michael takes great pride in his work, finding purpose in knowing that his efforts directly keep homes warm, businesses running, and families safe, while working alongside a dedicated team that looks out for one another.
This role has given Michael a deeper appreciation for the vital infrastructure that communities depend on. He sees neighborhoods differently—every home, every business, every street depends on our systems working safely and efficiently behind the scenes. Experienced in handling high-pressure situations, such as late-night and winter repairs, his team relies on training and teamwork to restore service in challenging conditions. Michael believes that if you’re willing to work hard, learn, and take pride in doing meaningful work, you can build a real career in utilities, as it teaches discipline, teamwork, problem-solving, and gives you the opportunity to make a real impact.
