Elizabethtown Gas TARIFF NO. 15
Base Rate Information
BGSS Rate Increase Effective Oct. 1, 2017
At Elizabethtown Gas we work hard to provide our customers with reliable, affordable natural gas. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has approved a Basic Gas Supply Service rate change applicable to residential and small commercial sales customers from $0.3757 to $0.4551 per therm. This new rate increases a residential and small commercial sales customer’s 100 therm bill by $7.94, a 9 percent increase over rates in effect at September 1, 2017.
This new rate is related to the Basic Gas Supply Service (BGSS) rate structure. This covers the cost of gas we purchase for customers and is adjusted periodically to reflect increases or decreases in the wholesale price of natural gas. This is a direct pass-through cost and Elizabethtown Gas earns no profit from this charge. This is the first Elizabethtown Gas BGSS increase since 2008. In fact, Elizabethtown Gas customers have experienced a steady decrease in their BGSS rates since 2009.
We understand how this increase can be concerning to customers. For income-qualified customers, Elizabethtown Gas offers a variety of Energy Assistance programs including a Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that helps eligible customers with heating costs and may cover the repair or replacement of heating equipment expenses.
