Protect Yourself from Payment Scams

Be Careful with Indoor Gas Meters

In rare circumstances gas meters are sometimes enclosed in home additions or other structures that may not allow for proper ventilation and can cause dangerous carbon monoxide build-up.

If your home has an enclosed gas meter or you notice one in a friend or relative’s home, we strongly encourage having it inspected by our field technicians.

Beware of Payment Scams

There have been increasing incidents of scams where people are falsely threatened with utility shutoffs unless they provide financial information. Scammers use a variety of contact methods including phone, email, or coming to your door. They may pretend to be from Elizabethtown Gas. Don’t be a victim, be prepared:

• Never provide your Social Security number or banking information to anyone initiating contact with you claiming to be a utility representative or requesting you to send money.
• We will never require you to use only one type of payment or ask you to pay by prepaid cards, gift cards or through third party wire transfers or apps.
• Always ask to see a company photo ID before allowing any utility worker into your home or business.

Utility Assistance Is Available

Help is available for those struggling to pay their energy bills. If you missed the June 30 deadline for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program LIHEAP, applications will resume again in the fall. Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE), Universal Service Fund (USF) and several other programs are still available to help. Don’t wait, apply today!

• Keep potentially combustible materials away from the grill.
• Keep children and pets away from the grill area.
• Regularly clean any accumulated grease or fat.
• Don’t use the grill if you smell gas.
• Don’t use the grill to cook indoors.

Energy Assistance Programs Available as Utility Shutoff Moratorium Ends

Elizabethtown Gas encourages eligible customers to take advantage of available energy assistance programs prior to the expiration of the moratorium on utility shutoffs, expected on June 30, 2021, to avoid potential utility shutoff.

Resources are available for those struggling to pay their energy bills. Applications are open until June 30 for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), including additional grants up to $700.00 to those who have already received assistance. The Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE), Universal Service Fund (USF) and several other programs are available to help.

Employees virtually walk with the American Heart Association

Our employees all over New Jersey rallied behind the American Heart Association (AHA) as they continued their annual Spring Heart Walk virtually. Our employees got moving to show their support and together raised over $50,000 to support the AHA’s mission to help save lives from heart disease.

Celebrate the Earth by Going Green

We celebrate Earth Day every day and this year our parent company, SJI, announced our commitment to reducing our operational carbon consumption and emissions 70% by the year 2030, and 100% by the year 2040.

To do this, we are installing solar panels on SJI buildings, replacing aging infrastructure, investing in renewable energy projects and completing the conversion of service vehicles to low carbon-density fuels such as compressed natural gas (CNG).

In addition, we encourage customers to use less energy and save money by participating in Energy Efficiency (EE) programs including a Home Energy Assessment, Rebates and Weatherization. We also launched Conserve, an online Energy Efficiency resource with articles, tips and details about EE programs exclusive to customers visit Conserve today.

Announcing our Game On Grant Winners

April is Safe Digging Month

April showers bring May flowers but remember to dial 811 before you dig!

Whether planting bushes or installing a new fence, if you’re planning to do any outdoor digging, you must call the NJ Safe Digging Hotline by dialing 8-1-1, at least 3 business days before you dig. This will ensure all underground utilities infrastructure are clearly identified and marked with flags or paint. It’s the law.
