How Green is Your Work Routine?

How Green is Your Work Routine?

When it comes to your work routine, green habits and sustainable practices can have a big impact on your productivity, your health and the environment. From commuting to recycling, there are a number of things you can do each day to make a difference – whether you work at home or in the office.

  • Conserve energy. Turn off the lights when you are not in your workspace and completely shut down your computer for the day. And don’t forget to unplug any appliances not in use.
  • Go paperless. Whether it’s requesting a digital paystub or digitizing your files, be mindful about the amount of paper you’re using and find alternatives that make sense for you.
  • Remember the 3Rs - reuse, reduce and recycle: There are countless ways to conserve at work – pack your lunch in a reusable container, drink from a reusable water bottle or travel mug, and of course use the recycling bins as instructed.
  • Consider your commute. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a huge shift to remote working. But many folks are still heading to work at least a couple of times per week. Whenever possible, choose public transportation vs. driving or start a car share with colleagues or friends.
  • Take advantage of remote/hybrid situation. Have you been hesitant to try working remotely? Discover the many benefits to working from home, including the reduced carbon footprint.
  • Green your space. Plants can bring a literal breath of fresh air to your office. They’re also an inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to add color and décor to your workspace.
